Let Them Eat Cake

Obvious title for a cake post? Maybe, but not for a Marie-Antoinette inspired cake!

I’ve already told you about our Versailles inspired venue so we thought it would be fun to incorporate some of those ornate elements into our cake. Here is an extremely over the top version of what we wanted:

It's so pretty! It looks like a Faberge egg!

We met Claudine from Sweet Couture at her adorable atelier, on a snowy Sunday. From the moment we walked in, it just clicked.

I came prepared with a ton of inspiration pictures for what I wanted, and it turns out Claudine had also  prepared a folder on her iPad for me, and almost all the pictures were the same! It was like we were speaking the same language!

Here is the sketch she made for  us at our initial meeting.

After we tasted the scrumptious samples she had prepared for us, it was clear that Claudine was our cake lady. We had already booked two other meetings, so we didn't sign right await, but we kept comparing everything else to her.

We were so excited to officially book Sweet Couture! Not only are the cakes amazingly intricate and beautiful, but they taste sooooo good! It was so hard narrowing it down to three flavours.

Our cake will be five tiers, so we are alternating between the following three flavours: chocolate with chocolate ganache, lemon cake with raspberry filling, and finally Dulce de Leche (a cuban desert) ! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

This is the final sketch of the cake, it will be pale blue fondant with gold leaf accents:
I wanted to see how big the cake would be, so I made this true to size model out of paper, I can't wait to see the real thing!

And what's that peeking out on top of it?

Why, it's my super cute cake topper, of course.

It's from France, y'all!

In all seriousness, it's from none other than Laduree, straight from Paris! No, I'm not crazy spoiled, just lucky enough to have a really close friend living in Paris who was sweet enough to pick it up for me and send it in the mail :)

It's the cherry on top of our perfect, Marie-Antoinette inspired cake! As you can see, it`s barely bigger than an espresso cup. Sooo cute and tiny!

Anybody else obsessed with their cake?  Are you having any Marie-Antoinette inspired elements in your wedding?
