If you recall our engagement story, you might remember that I caught the bouquet at our friend's wedding a mere hours before Mr. Waterfall proposed. For all you bouquet skeptics out there: Don't mock the bouquet juju -- it works! So, of course, Mr. W and I thought it would be fun to include the traditional tosses, and if they happened to bring good fortune to our friends, all the better! Once we cut the cake, our DJ announced the bouquet toss and called my girl friends to the dance floor by playing the ubiquitous "Single Ladies". Some might say it's cliché and totally overplayed; others might say it's awesome and fun (you can guess what camp I'm in).
Of course, since some people abhor bouquet tosses, we decided not to embarrass anyone by making participation 100% optional, but we had a pretty good turnout! Beforehand, Papa Long Legs came to see me and asked me to make sure MOH Long Legs caught the bouquet, and I was all too happy to oblige. We aim to please, after all ;)
After I shook my tushie to Beyoncé an appropriate amount, it was time to aim and throw, making sure not to hit the amazing crystal chandelier in the process.
So, who caught the bouquet? It was a tie between MOH Long Legs and Lil Waterfall! As it turns out, BM Tiny had asked Lil Waterfall to come out to play while my back was turned and she ended up catching it, along with Long Legs :)
I just love BM Green Eyes's expression in this photo, and the bouquet juju must have rubbed off on her, because she's since gotten engaged to her boyfriend! |
My favorite ladies under the sun! |
The song started playing and Mr. Waterfall started shaking what his momma gave him. It was pretty awesome, I'm not gonna lie to you guys.
The MC then called up Best Man Tequila to blindfold Mr. W, but he had already begun partaking in a few delicious libations, courtesy of our open bar, so he required some assistance from MOH Long Legs' boyfriend. Since he also kept fumbling with the handkerchief. Mr. W joked that maybe they should bring out MOH Long Legs, since she's quite an experienced sailor, to which her boyfriend replied: "She just caught the bouquet, I have bigger problems!"
Eventually, they managed to blindfold Mr. Waterfall...
But the audience decided that wasn't enough and encouraged BM Teq. to also tie Mr. Waterfall's hands.
Mr. Waterfall removed the garter quite easily, so easily in fact, that some guests accused me of helping him. Still, everyone got quite a laugh, and we kept it classy :)
For the garter toss, Mr. Waterfall picked "Rock your Body" as an inside joke with his friends. But also because JT is awesome, let's be honest.
The guys were surprisingly pumped about participating in the garter toss, there was even some competition! Eventually, Mr. W's friend M caught it.
The one element we decided to skip was having the guy who caught the garter place it on the girl who caught the bouquet, especially since it was Mr. W's little sister.
Overall, we really enjoyed the tosses, and our guests certainly seemed to enjoy them as well.
Are you doing any tosses?
